Which Yamaha piano should you choose?
Yamaha U1: a versatile upright
For lessons and home practice, the U1 is a format to compare. Assess the precision of touch and ease of playing dynamics on the available instruments.
Yamaha U3: a large upright
The U3 has a taller cabinet than the U1. Try both to choose the sound presence and response that suit your room and your playing.
Yamaha C3: moving to a grand
The C3 lets you explore a grand piano’s touch in a format to plan carefully for your home. Every instrument has its own character: compare sounds and playing feel to find yours.
UX and other Yamaha pianos
The UX and other Yamaha models are also worth trying. Browse the selection above or ask us about the model you want. We regularly have U1 and U3 pianos; if your choice is absent, we can check possibilities with our supplier.
UX, UX3, YUS: more Yamaha pianos to explore
UX, UX1 and UX3
Do you like the U3 format? The UX and UX3 are also worth your attention. The UX3 is a 131 cm upright distinguished by its X-shaped back posts and front sound openings. UX1, UX10A and UX30A are other models worth knowing. Depending on the instrument, you may discover different tonal balances and playing sensations.
YUS and YUX: names worth knowing
YUS and YUX are among the other Yamaha uprights found on the used market. They broaden the choice for a pianist wanting to compare different tonal characters. If one interests you, we can check availability and help you include it among the instruments to try.
The YUS1, YUS3 and YUS5 series
The YUS1, YUS3 and YUS5 form another series, distinct from the earlier model named YUS. Yamaha gives particular attention to hammers, strings and voicing to shape tone colour. The YUS1 is 121 cm tall, while the YUS3 and YUS5 are 131 cm: alternatives to consider if you want to explore other nuances of touch and sound.
Find your piano, based on your preferences and budget
You may prefer a lighter or firmer touch, a brighter or gentler sound. We help you put your preferences into words and find pianos within your budget. The selection changes with arrivals; contact us if you are looking for a particular model.
GH1, C1, C2, C3 or C5: which format suits you?
Length affects how a piano fits your room
The GH1 and C1 are among the smaller grands, around 1.60 m long. At approximately 1.73 m, the C2 is an appealing option when comparing a format shorter than the C3. The C3 is about 1.86 m and the C5 approaches two metres. These differences affect space requirements as well as what you hear and feel during a trial.
Consider the budget instrument by instrument
A good starting point is to tell us about your space and the budget you want to set aside for your piano. We can suggest instruments to compare, from a small grand to a more generous format. On the used market, a larger model is not automatically the most expensive: each instrument’s condition and preparation also influence the choice.
| Model | Indicative length | To guide your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Yamaha GH1 | Approximately 1.60 m (5 ft 3 in) | A small grand to consider for the home. |
| Yamaha C1 | Approximately 1.61 m (5 ft 3 in) | Another compact format for comparing touch and budget. |
| Yamaha C2 | Approximately 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) | An intermediate size between smaller formats and the C3. |
| Yamaha C3 | Approximately 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in) | To explore a grand piano with more length. |
| Yamaha C5 | Around 2 m, depending on the version | A larger format when your room and musical plans allow. |
Dimensions vary by version. We can confirm the measurements of the piano that interests you and help you plan its place at home. Available models change with arrivals.
